Few IT students are exposed to work while doing their studies and when they get opportunity of working, they don’t always deliver what is expected from them.

To promote ICT Skills Development in South Africa, we are running a few projects that will develop ICT skills of students, create professionalism and instill more confidence in their ability to compete in the global marketplace.

The project consists of students working on the development of websites and portals. This will allow them to learn the whole environment of website management as well as online marketing with an ephasis on Search Engine Optimization.

They will learn about Open Source tools such as Mambo, Joomla, Dolphin and many more.

Students will use Open Source languages and databases such as php and mysql.

We will give them options to join the Open Source communities such as Open Tuesday.

This will facilitate skills transfer and promote their economic viability. This project provides them with an opportunity for practical exposure and at the same time it provides an income generation opportunity that goes a long way in assisting them with tuition, books, and other financial needs.

ICT SKILLS DEVELOPMENT

This is a skills exchange project that will improve the ICT skills of people interested in Information Communication Technology. The project engages young people in the development for the ICT sector and creates job opportunities. Skills development constitutes a critical part of the industry's growth strategy and special attention needs to be given to the issue of the scarce skills that both the public and private sectors would need to meet the country's growth objectives.

The South African government has identified large-scale state investments in infrastructure, small business and skills development as key elements of the government's strategy to boost South Africa's economic growth rate and create employment.

Government must play a key role in the Youth Skills Development Program especially in the Information and Communication Technologies by creating a sustainable relationship with local and international investors and urging them to boost youth skills development by the means of internship programs.

With our skills development program, we will increase the number of young people interested in the Information Communication Technologies sector. We are currently running this project in the Western Cape with youth from disadvantaged communities.
